Step by step
Turn your antivirus off and install the runtimes
This is the same for every product and only needs doing once per PC.
- Uninstall every antivirus program. Kaspersky and Malwarebytes have to go completely - switching them off is not enough.
- Turn Windows Defender off, including real-time and tamper protection. dControl does it in one click: www.sordum.org/downloads/?st-defender-control - archive password sordum.
- Uninstall the anti-cheat of every other game: Riot Vanguard, FACEIT, ESEA, Easy Anti-Cheat, BattlEye. Remove the folders too.
- Install the Visual C++ Redistributables, all versions: www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/ - unzip it and run install_all.bat as administrator. The developer names these explicitly for FiveM.
- Install the DirectX End-User Runtime from microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 - run it as administrator.
- Install .NET Framework 4.8 or newer from dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/net48 - run it as administrator.
- Restart the PC once everything is installed.
Redeem your key
Create your account on the portal and redeem the key from your order there to activate your licence.
Download the loader
Once your key is redeemed, sign in on the portal and download the loader. Leave your antivirus off while it downloads.
Open the loader and pick FiveM
Start the loader, sign in with the account you just created, and select FiveM from the list.
Exclude the loader folder from Windows Defender - otherwise Defender deletes it again later.
Launch FiveM and inject
Start FiveM. The reliable moment to hit Inject is the main menu, or the loading screen you get right after picking a server while it loads resources and assets. Then wait until it has finished loading.
Injecting while you are already in a server works too - the main menu is just the safer moment.
Open the menu
Once it has finished loading, open the menu and you are set.
TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Whether the injection works comes down almost entirely to when you press Inject. The best moment is the FiveM main menu, or the loading screen right after you pick a server, while it pulls in resources and assets. Injecting once you are already in a server is supported and does work - the main menu is simply more reliable.
INJECTION NOT WORKING
- Make sure every antivirus is really off and the loader is excluded from Windows Defender, then try again from the main menu.
- Delete the C:\scooby folder to clear old settings - do this after every update as well.
- Run the loader as administrator.
- Unlink and uninstall OneDrive; it takes over the Documents folder and causes permission errors.
- Open CMD as administrator and run sfc /scannow to repair Windows system files.
CRASHING
- Delete C:\scooby, then start over.
- Disable HDR in Windows display settings.
- Make sure your graphics drivers are current and Date & Time is synced in Windows.
- Still crashing after all of that is usually a Windows permissions problem - create a new Windows user with admin rights and run it there.
CONNECTION OR SSL ERRORS
Your ISP is blocking the connection to the servers. Use a VPN - Cloudflare or Proton work for most people. Make sure the VPN has no built-in antivirus.
THE LOADER DISAPPEARS ON ITS OWN
Defender removed it. Add it as an exclusion: Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings > Add or remove exclusions.
HARDWARE CHANGED
Sign in on the portal, open the menu top right, go to My Profile, scroll to Hardware ID and click Reset HWID. If it is on cooldown you have to wait it out.

Prepare Windows once
Four settings, and the loader works on the first try. You only do this once per PC.
Add an exclusion for the folder you keep the loader in.
- Windows Security → Virus & threat protection
- Manage settings → Add or remove exclusions
- Add the folder, not the file — the loader replaces itself when it updates
Turn off Core isolation.
- Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → Device security

- Turn off Memory integrity and the Vulnerable driver blocklist
Install the runtimes the loader needs.
- Visual C++ 2015–2022, both x64 and x86
- The current DirectX end-user runtime
Set your keyboard layout to English (UK or US). On other layouts the loader reads some key characters wrong.
Close the anti-cheats of other games while you play: Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, FACEIT, BattlEye, ESEA. They watch the same memory the loader writes to.
The menu does not open
In this order. Most cases are solved by the first three — everything below is a system setting, and you only touch it if the ones above did not help.
Restart the PC and try once more. A loader that was blocked once stays blocked until the next boot.
Run it as administrator, from the extracted folder — not from inside the archive.
Move the loader to a different folder and start it again.
Check virtualization: Task Manager → Performance → CPU. If it says disabled, turn it on in the BIOS (Intel Virtualization Technology, or SVM Mode on AMD).
Disable Hyper-V completely, then reboot.
Disable Secure Boot in the BIOS.
- Turn off BitLocker first — without the recovery key you will not get back into Windows

Update your graphics drivers, and set date and time to automatic.
If a third-party antivirus is installed (Kaspersky, Malwarebytes), disabling it is often not enough — remove it, reboot, try again.
